The Department of Statistics is expanding, and three esteemed colleagues have joined the team this year.
Nicholas Rios
Statistics assistant professor Nicholas Rios comes to George Mason with a PhD in statistics from Penn State University. Rios’ particular areas of interest include experimental design, functional data analysis, compositional data analysis, Gaussian process modeling, and computational sciences.
Abolfazl Safikhani
Abolfazl Safikhani has a broad range of research interests in network modeling, high-dimensional statistics, spatio-temporal models, unsupervised learning, urban planning, neuroscience, and smart cities. He joins the department at George Mason as assistant professor.
John Stufken
With over 35 years of experience, George Mason Statistics professor John Stufken brings a wealth of knowledge to his role at George Mason. He has held leadership positions at Bank of America, University of Georgia, Arizona State University, and University of North Carolina-Greensboro and served as Program Director for Statistics at the National Science Foundation.
