R. Clifton Bailey Travel Awards

Statistician R. Clifton Bailey sponsors travel awards to support undergraduate and graduate students attending academic conferences.

These awards help cover travel costs for students presenting peer-reviewed work and gaining professional experience in the field of statistics.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the travel award, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Explore other funding avenues from university sources before applying for this award.
  • Have a peer-reviewed poster or paper presentation accepted by the conference organizers.

Application Materials

Your application must include:

  1. A letter of support from your faculty advisor
  2. An abstract of your accepted presentation
  3. Details about the type of conference you plan to attend
  4. Evidence of funding requests from other sources as outlined above
  5. A statement explaining how attending the conference will benefit your academic or professional goals

What to Expect

Before attending a conference, students should give a practice presentation to students/faculty to the George Mason chapter of the American Statistical Association (ASA), or provide a draft manuscript to the awards committee. 

After the conference, students must submit a written report describing what they learned and how the experience contributed to their academic or professional development.
